We have listened to about 100 papers presented as six keynote papers as well as technical papers  in 5 parallel sessions each with their own special fields. The presentation and the question and answers sessions have been successful ones in the  sense that they were not only presenting the ideas but a knowledge sharing and comments for further improvements.

I believe that we should share our knowledge and develop joint understanding of the problems and their solutions. We are now exerting genuine efforts, which demand integration of different perspectives and your expertise.  Reflecting the importance of innovation and sustainability issues not only for the constituents of this region only but also for the whole world, it’s expected that a wider platform for collaboration with the other regions of the world will provide a worldwide platform to discuss the issues.

I would like first of all to thank the organizing committee  who have been with me through thick and thin, for the endless effort to ensure the progress and the successful organisation of the conference. My special thanks  also goes to the Department of Structures and Materials, the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

I would also wish to express similar thanks, appreciation and congratulation to all presenters for their hard work in preparing , presenting the papers and also for the effort to travel to Langkawi Island. Also special thanks to our key note speakers for their notable presentation hence reflect the expertise of their areas of specialisation.

Last but not least our special appreciation to Ministry of Tourism Malaysia, CREAM CIDB ,and KLIA Holdings Sdn Bhd who kindly supported us financially and other supporters such as JKR, BEM,  STC, CETU and CTMC. We hope that support will continue in future events.

On the last day  we went on the island tour, introducing you to exotic Malaysia truly Asia.  There was time also for shopping for souveniers which we hope that you would bring back happy memories of Malaysia, a unique country  with multi racial and multi cultural origins.

On behalf of the organising committee, we hope that everyone enjoyed the conference and have safe journey home.

EACEF is a two yearly event while APSEC is a three yearly event.

SPEAKERS INSTRUCTIONS

Dear Authors,

Thank you for your contribution to the APSEC2009-EACEF2009.  Please read the following instructions to prepare for your presentation.

1. Symposium Program

Please visit the following website to confirm the updated conference program. The final program is now uploaded.
Click here for the Parallel Session Programme.

2. Time Allocation Presentation

The time allocated for each presentation is 15 minutes (12 minutes presentation, 3 minutes for Q&A). In order to ensure the smooth operation of the sessions, we ask you to keep to the time allocation as stated above.

3. Data of Presentation

Each session room is provided with one Windows laptop computer with LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) projector on which Microsoft PowerPoint is installed (OS: Windows XP, English version; Software: Microsoft PowerPoint 2003).  You are requested to bring the data of your presentation on a USB memory stick to the Speaker’s Room and pass it to the technical expert during registration or  at least 4 hours before your session after checking your presentation. The size of your presentation data may not exceed 30MB. Please note as well that to avoid delays during sessions, the use of personal laptops is not encouraged.

When you make a PowerPoint file for your presentation, please be sure that all graphics are embedded in the presentation file. Fonts should be standard fonts such as Times New Roman, Arial or Courier. If non-standard fonts must be used, they should be embedded in the presentation files.

4. Meeting in the Session Room

Please be present in the session room at the break prior to the start of the session and take time to introduce yourself to the Session Chair.

No Transportation provided

Please consider staying at the conference hotel as other hotels are not within the walking distance to the conference hotel. The organizer WILL NOT provide transportation to and from the other hotels to the conference venue.

The Langkawi Island tour will be on the 6th August 2009 (Thursday). The tour includes Langkawi Geopark and Langkawi Cable Car. The acceptance of full technical paper had been officially sent via email to all corresponding author(s). If you have yet to receive any confirmation, please email our Secretary of the Technical Committe at m.ismail@utm.my (Attention: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed AbdelKader Ismail). We hope to seeing you in Langkawi for the APSEC-EACEF 2009 conference.

 

The acceptance of full technical paper will be gradually announced by the 15th April 2009. All corresponding authors will be notified via email including the registration form and the payment method. On behalf of the organising committee, we are sorry for the delay and hope to see you in Langkawi for the APSEC-EACEF 2009 conference.
