ENVIRONMENT FRIENDLY HEAVY TRAFFIC
ABSTRACT
Road transport is the main operator in freight transport and will become increasingly important as a fundamental economic driver worldwide. The rapid increase in road freight transport demand triggers debates taking place all over the world. Congestion and uncovered infrastructure costs have become the subject of particular attention more recently. In this context the necessity is evident of making better use of existing infrastructure. These problems cause significant and unnecessary welfare losses to the economy and society. The society now has to face important challenges on the environment (C02 and other harmful emissions), energy savings, noise, road and infrastructure safety and operational cost. In this context the commitment to reduce C02 emissions by 25% will be an additional problem.
To cover some of those problems this report will concentrate on road-infrastructure- interaction, suggestion to extend life-cycle of roads and reduction in operation cost. Based on this technical expertise economical advantages can be expected.
